Our organization got its start as a result of Thursday Night Jazz Sessions held at Pat Connolly Tavern in St. Louis, Missouri.

For more than 8 years over 100 musicians succeeded in building community, increasing revenue for the venue and supporting local and visiting musicians dedicated to the straight ahead sound. From that experience came a desire to do more.

In 2019, a group of like-minded spirits came together to form Str8ahead.org, a non profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting local and regional artists committed to the performance of “straight ahead” jazz.

 

Both emerging and longstanding local and regional musicians dedicated to straight ahead jazz are the focus of our energy and support.  When experienced, the "straight ahead" sound can capture the imagination of its listeners in unique ways promoting friendship, community and creativity.

Notably, Str8tahead.org is committed to sharing this particular genre of music with a wide array of audiences, especially those not typically able to attend a live performance.
